Ashley with an urn and stool. Oil on canvas, 20” x 36”

Born in Brooklyn New York, Nancee started her college career studying fine art only to change to interior design for what was a more reliably profitable career. This provided a wonderful livelihood for many years. Having run her own business for 30 years, she found the skills of interior design, working with colour, textures and proportions, very translatable to the world of art. Her style is bold with assured gestural marks and a strong sense of colour balance.

Having married an Englishman many years ago, Nancee has split her time living in New York, London and San Francisco. Along the way Nancee always took art classes and studied at the Art Students League in New York as well as the Visual Arts Center in Summit New Jersey. Focusing on portraits, landscapes and still life’s in both oils and pastels she further fine tuned her skills with the Portrait Diploma course at Heatherleys School of Fine Art in London, graduating in 2021.

“For me art is about capturing a moment - something that catches your breath and gives you pause. Whether that moment is capturing the essence of a person’s face, or a ray of light glistening off the water - it needs to be expressed as a gesture, as a moment. I want people to stop and notice and feel the emotion that caused me to paint the image in the first place.  I find that no matter the subject, the challenges are the same - drawing the image with the right proportions and composition, determining the ideal colour palette and interpreting the mood of the image. I find great joy in the physical act of painting and being totally in the moment.”
